Overview

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBG) began offering MBBS in 1995 and started the MS program in 2007. Initially, the department had 150 MBBS seats and 7 MS seats, which have since increased to accommodate current needs. By 2024, 56 MS students have graduated, with 21 currently in residency.
A key differentiating feature of our department is the high clinical load, providing comprehensive obstetric care to the underprivileged at no cost. We have achieved commendable research outcomes, including patents, copyrights, publications, clinical trials, MOUs, and outreach activities.
Our dynamic faculty, with experience and training from prestigious institutions, actively participates in workshops, CMEs, and various national and state-level conferences as chairpersons, speakers, and presenters, ensuring they stay updated on recent advances in the field. The faculty is well-trained in obstetric and gynecological surgery and proficient with various ICT tools and simulation techniques, earning a Vidhwan score of 10/10 for two faculty members.
Both postgraduate students and faculty engage in outreach programs, conducting awareness camps, free camps, and free cervical cancer screening initiatives. We address cross-cutting issues relevant to women's healthcare and incorporate them into our teaching.
Hands-on training is encouraged due to the surgical nature of the specialty, and we actively participate in research despite a heavy clinical load. Our accomplishments include 1 patent, 4 copyrights, 2 clinical trials, and over 80 publications, with funding from EMF STS (1 project), non-government sources (9.95 Lakhs), IMF (8.5 Lakhs), and consultancy (6.65 Lakhs).
We have established 8 MOUs for various academic and research activities. The Santosh Matr Shishu Kalyan Yojna promotes institutional deliveries by providing free deliveries and LSCS. Notable CMEs conducted by the department include UPCOG 2020, a Live Laparoscopy Gynae Workshop (2023), and a PICSEP workshop on research methodology in collaboration with the Indian College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (2023).
Our alumni have found successful placements, including Dr. Parul Khatri (Senior Resident), Dr. Sheenam Jain (Breezy Births), Dr. Pankhuri Garg (LA MIDAS), and Dr. Akash Gupta (Lap Centre, College of Pharmacy). The department is committed to reducing maternal mortality by promoting zero tolerance for young deaths due to postpartum hemorrhage in collaboration with the Government of India.
