A Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics is an undergraduate degree program that focuses on the study of human nutrition and the role of diet in promoting health and preventing and treating diseases. The program typically takes four years to complete and requires a high school diploma or equivalent for admission.

The curriculum of a B.Sc. in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics program usually includes courses in biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, psychology, and statistics, as well as specific courses in nutrition and dietetics. These courses cover topics such as macronutrients and micronutrients, metabolism, nutritional assessment, dietary guidelines, food science, food safety, community nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, and nutritional counseling.

The program also includes supervised clinical practice, where students get the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in real-life situations under the guidance of experienced professionals. This helps them develop their clinical and communication skills and gain practical experience in working with patients with various nutritional needs.

Graduates of a B.Sc. in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics program can pursue careers as registered dietitians, clinical nutritionists, food service managers, public health nutritionists, and nutrition educators. They can also choose to continue their education by pursuing a master's degree or a doctoral degree in nutrition or a related field.

 

Program Objectives

  1.  Understanding the function and role of nutritionists and dieticians in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, gyms, corporate sectors, food industries, and other healthcare institutions.
  2.  Developing knowledge, abilities, and a comprehensive understanding of the subject to prepare for a career as a teacher at the secondary, college, or university levels after completing advanced studies in a related field.
  3.  Planning diets for both healthy and ill members of society to improve health management and disease prevention.
  4.  Fostering an entrepreneurial mindset so that one can one day own their own successful business.
  5.  Gaining a thorough understanding of the human body.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Botany & Zoology/ Biology including English
  • An equivalent qualification from a Recognized Board.

Career Prospective

Dietitian: A dietitian is a healthcare professional who specializes in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of nutritional problems. They work with individuals and groups to promote healthy eating habits and develop personalized meal plans. With a B.Sc. in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics, graduates are eligible to take the national registration exam to become a Dietitian and work in hospitals, clinics, private practices, schools, and other healthcare settings.

 

Public Health Nutritionist: A public health nutritionist works with communities to promote healthy eating habits and prevent nutrition-related diseases. They may work for government agencies, non-profit organizations, or community health clinics. Graduates with a B.Sc. in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics can work in public health nutrition after completing additional training in public health.

 

Nutrition Educator: A nutrition educator is responsible for teaching individuals and groups about healthy eating habits, food preparation, and nutrition-related diseases. They may work in schools, community centers, or corporate wellness programs. Graduates with a B.Sc. in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics can work as nutrition educators after completing additional training in education.

 

Food Product Development Specialist: A food product development specialist is responsible for creating new food products that meet the nutritional needs of consumers. They may work for food companies, research institutions, or government agencies. Graduates with a B.Sc. in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics can work in food product development after completing additional training in food science.

 

Nutrition Consultant: A nutrition consultant provides individualized advice to clients about healthy eating habits and nutritional supplements. They may work for private practices, fitness centers, or sports teams. Graduates with a B.Sc. in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics can work as nutrition consultants after obtaining additional certifications and licenses.
