Pediatrics dentistry is a specialty that provides oral health care to children till 13 years of age that is including infants and children through adolescence and those with special health care needs.
By being an age-specific specialty, pediatrics dentistry encompasses disciplines such as behaviour guidance, care of the medically and developmentally compromised and disabled patient, supervision of orofacial growth and development, caries prevention, sedation, pharmacological behaviour management, and hospital dentistry, as well as other traditional fields of dentistry.
These skills are applied to the needs of children throughout their ever-changing stages of development and to treating conditions and diseases unique to growing individuals.At Santosh Dental College we have access to a hospital set-up and thus we manage trauma and medical emergency cases efficiently.
Eligibility Criteria: The eligibility criteria for admission to the MDS Paediatric & Preventive Dentistry program are as follows:
Educational Qualification: The candidate should have a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from a recognized university. The candidate should also have completed a one-year rotating internship program in a recognized dental college.
Minimum Marks: The candidate should have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in their BDS degree. However, for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes, the minimum percentage is 40%.

Every candidate shall attend symposia, seminars, conferences, journal review meeting, grand rounds, CPC, case presentation, clinics and lectures during each year as prescribed by the department and not absent himself from work without valid reasons.

Part-I: Basic Sciences Paper - 100 Marks
Paper I: Applied Basic Sciences: Applied Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Research Methodology and Biostatistics Growth and Development and Dental plaque, Genetics.
MDS 3rd Year
Theory:
Part-II: Paper-I, Paper-II & Paper-III - 300 Marks (100 Marks for each Paper)
Paper-I: Clinical Pedodontics
Paper-II: Preventive and Community Dentistry as applied to pediatric dentistry
Paper-III: Descriptive and analysing type question
Clinical/practical examination:
Clinical/practical examination is designed to test the clinical skill, performance and competence of the candidate in skills such as communication, clinical examination, medical/dental procedures or prescription, exercise prescription, latest techniques, evaluation and interpretation of results so as to undertake independent work as a specialist.
The affiliating university shall ensure that the candidate has been given ample opportunity to perform various clinical procedures. The practical/clinical examination shall be conducted for the candidates in two days.
Viva-voce examination:
Viva voce examination aims at assessing the depth of knowledge, logical reasoning, confidence and communication skill of the students.
