The department provides comprehensive care encompassing dentoalveolar surgery, maxillofacial trauma, pathology, reconstructive surgery, temporomandibular joint disorders, implantology, facial aesthetics, and allied surgical procedures.

Prof. (Dr.) Lokesh Chandra is a distinguished Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Academician, Researcher and Institutional Leader with extensive experience in teaching, clinical practice, research and academic administration. As Professor and Head of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Santosh Dental College & Hospital, he has been instrumental in strengthening academic excellence, advanced surgical training, research innovation and comprehensive patient care within the department.

With expertise in major surgical procedures spanning TMJ Ankylosis & Reconstruction, Maxillofacial Trauma, Jaw Reconstructive Surgery, Implantology, Facial Aesthetics and advanced oral surgical procedures, Dr. Lokesh Chandra has established himself as a committed clinician and mentor dedicated to delivering high standards of surgical care and education. His patient-centric approach, combined with evidence-based clinical practice has significantly contributed to the growth and advancement of the specialty. 

As Research Coordinator of the Santosh Dental College, he has contributed significantly in developing the research culture. An active contributor to scientific research and innovation, he has conducted various research studies as PI and also has mentored various research projects of Department of Health Research & CSIR. His research interests include genetic study, regenerative surgery, facial trauma management, digital surgical planning, dental implantology and emerging technologies in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He has published more than 40 research articles in reputed indexed national and international journals along with book contributions. 

Dr. Lokesh Chandra has vital role in his speciality association as Honorable Treasurer and has contributed academically by conducting more than 15 conference. He has participated in various academic conferences, workshops and professional forums. He has delivered more than 20 Keynote lectures at National & International forums, attended more than 125 Conferences.

Dr. Lokesh Chandra strongly emphasizes clinical training and skill development among undergraduate and postgraduate students through hands-on surgical exposure, interdisciplinary learning, academic discussions and research-oriented activities. His commitment to mentoring young professionals has played a vital role in shaping competent and confident oral and maxillofacial surgeons. Apart from his academic and clinical contributions, Dr. Lokesh Chandra actively participates in institutional development activities, quality assurance initiatives, research promotion and academic governance. Under his leadership, the department continues to progress as a centre of excellence in surgical education, patient care and research.

The department houses Undergraduate and Postgraduate Clinical Sections, a Minor Operation Theatre, faculty rooms, a Seminar Room, a Department Library a dedicated Postgraduate Students Room. In addition, the department has well-equipped consultation and counseling areas to facilitate effective patient communication and treatment planning.

The department operates with modern surgical infrastructure to provide specialized oral and maxillofacial surgical care in a safe, efficient, and patient-centered environment. It is equipped with advanced instruments and technologies including surgical handpieces, implantology units, piezosurgery units, electrocautery devices, physiodispensers, laser-assisted surgical equipment and trauma fixation systems. These facilities enable the department to perform a wide spectrum of procedures ranging from minor oral surgical interventions to complex maxillofacial surgeries.

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is closely associated with Santosh Multispeciality Hospital, which provides comprehensive multidisciplinary support for the management of major surgical cases. The hospital is equipped with advanced operation theatre complexes, intensive care facilities, emergency services, and specialized medical departments including General Surgery, ENT, Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Anaesthesiology, Oncology and Critical Care.
