Thrust Areas

Craniomaxillofacial trauma refers to injuries affecting the skull, face, and jaw, often resulting from road accidents, falls, sports injuries, or interpersonal violence. The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery specializes in the diagnosis, management, and surgical reconstruction of these injuries to restore function, aesthetics, and quality of life.

Key aspects of craniomaxillofacial trauma management include:
• Fracture fixation of the mandible, maxilla, zygomatic bone, and orbital structures using mini plates and screws.
• Soft tissue reconstruction for complex facial lacerations and avulsions.
• Treatment of traumatic temporomandibular joint (TMJ) injuries to restore jaw function.
• Cranial vault and midface reconstruction using bone grafting, 3D printing, and custom implants.
• Post-traumatic rehabilitation, including dental prosthetics and speech therapy.

Advancements in computer-assisted surgery, virtual surgical planning, and minimally invasive techniques have improved surgical precision and patient outcomes, making craniomaxillofacial trauma a key thrust area in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
