A Master of Science (MSc) in Medical Biochemistry is a postgraduate degree program that focuses on the study of the biochemical processes that occur within the human body and how they relate to disease. This program provides students with an in-depth understanding of the molecular and cellular mechanisms that underlie human physiology and pathology, including the study of enzymes, proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and nucleic acids.

Students in this program will develop a strong foundation in the principles and techniques of biochemistry, as well as gain an understanding of the role of biochemistry in modern medical research and practice. They will also learn how to design and carry out experiments, analyze data, and communicate their findings to a variety of audiences.

Coursework in an MSc in Medical Biochemistry program typically includes topics such as biomolecular structure and function, molecular biology, cell signaling and communication, metabolism, and molecular genetics. Students may also have the opportunity to specialize in areas such as cancer biology, infectious diseases, or neurochemistry.

Graduates of an MSc in Medical Biochemistry program are well-prepared for careers in research, academia, or the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. They may work as research scientists, medical writers, or scientific consultants, among other roles. Eligibility Criteria:

The Candidate who possesses a degree of MBBS/BDS/BMLT/BOT/BMM/B.Pharma/BAMS/Bio-Tech/B.Sc Biochemistry/B.Sc Nursing/B.Sc Degree with Physics, Chemistry, Botany, or Zoology with 50% Aggregate marks as the main subjects, are eligible to apply for M.Sc Medical Biochemistry.

 

Course Outline: 

Advanced Biochemistry: This course covers advanced topics in biochemistry, including protein structure and function, enzyme kinetics, metabolic pathways, and gene expression.

Molecular Biology: This course covers the structure and function of DNA, RNA, and proteins, as well as the mechanisms of DNA replication, transcription, and translation.

Cell Biology: This course covers the structure and function of cells, including cell signaling and communication, membrane transport, and cellular metabolism.

Immunology: This course covers the immune system, including the mechanisms of immune recognition, antibody production, and cellular immunity.

Genetics: This course covers the principles of genetics, including gene expression, inheritance patterns, DNA sequencing and genetic disorders.

Bio-organic chemistry: Biomolecules, enzyme catalysis, bioenergetics, protein structure & function, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, lipids, metabolism & regulation.

Bio-physical chemistry: Chemical kinetics, thermodynamics, spectroscopy, electrochemistry, surface chemistry, colloid chemistry, and macromolecular chemistry in biological systems.

Immunology: Innate and adaptive immunity, immunological techniques, immunodeficiency, autoimmunity, hypersensitivity, transplantation, and vaccine development in health and disease.

Biochemical techniques: Chromatography, electrophoresis, spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, PCR, DNA sequencing, protein structure analysis, and enzyme kinetics in biochemical research.

Intermediary metabolism: Bioenergetics, carbohydrate metabolism, citric acid cycle, oxidative phosphorylation, lipid metabolism, amino acid metabolism, and regulation of metabolic pathways.

Nutritional Biochemistry: Macronutrients and micronutrients, digestion, absorption, and metabolism of nutrients, nutritional requirements, and nutritional disorders in human health.

Specialized biochemistry: Advanced topics in biochemistry, such as structural biology, biophysics, systems biology, synthetic biology, and computational biology.

Research Methods: This course covers the principles and techniques of scientific research, including experimental design, data analysis, and scientific communication.

Seminar Series: This course provides opportunities for students to present and discuss their research findings and to attend presentations by visiting researchers.

Thesis: This is a research project in which students conduct original research in a specific area of medical biochemistry and write a thesis presenting their findings.
