Cleft and Palate Surgery Camp in collaboration with LWRF, USA
Santosh Hospital, Ghaziabad in collaboration with the Love Without Reason Foundation (LWRF), USA organised a three-day Cleft and Palate Surgery Camp from 26th to 28th March 2026. The camp was conducted with the shared mission of providing free high-quality surgical care to patients suffering from cleft lip, cleft palate and craniofacial deformities. The camp was conducted under the overall guidance of Dr. Manoj Goyal, Hon'ble Pro-Chancellor and Dr. Manish Shabarwal, Medical Director, Santosh Hospital.
Pre-Camp Visit — 25th March 2026A day prior to the commencement of the camp the LWRF team — excluding the surgeons — visited Santosh Hospital to review and assess the preparedness and overall arrangements in place. The team conducted a comprehensive walkthrough of key areas including screening zones, operation theatres and ward rooms ensuring that all logistical, clinical and administrative aspects were in order for the smooth execution of the programme.
Day 1 — 26th March 2026: Inauguration, MoU Signing and Surgical CommencementA team of 19 members from LWRF arrived at the hospital on the first day of the camp. The day began with a formal inauguration ceremony graced by the Hon'ble Pro-Chancellor Dr. Manoj Goyal, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Dr. V. N. Mahalakshmi and the University Leadership Team. The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the official commencement of the camp.
Following the inauguration a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally signed between Dr. Manish Shabarwal representing Santosh Hospital and Mr. Vijay Ramamoorthy, Chairman of LWRF in the presence of the University leadership and the Registrar of Santosh Deemed to be University. This MoU formalised the partnership between the two organisations and laid the foundation for continued collaboration in the field of humanitarian surgical care.
Surgical procedures commenced with 9 patients having been admitted the previous day and four successful surgeries were performed on Day 1. In the evening the LWRF team conducted ward rounds for post-operative patient review.
Day 2 — 27th March 2026: Surgical Continuation and Patient CareThe LWRF surgical team continued procedures on the second day performing a total of six surgeries including cleft lip and cleft palate corrections. Three patients from Day 1 were successfully discharged following satisfactory recovery. A particularly noteworthy case on this day was that of a 63-year-old patient who underwent cleft palate surgery — having lived most of her life without access to corrective treatment and her surgery stood as a powerful testament to the camp's humanitarian purpose.
The Hon'ble Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Manoj Goyal was personally present in the Operation Theatre on the 7th floor closely monitoring and overseeing the surgical activities throughout the day.
Day 3 — 28th March 2026: Patient Review, Valedictory Session and Media InteractionNo surgeries were scheduled on the final day of the camp. The LWRF team conducted thorough ward rounds to assess post-operative recovery ensuring that all patients were stable and receiving appropriate care. Prior to the valedictory session, the Hon'ble Pro-Chancellor held a review meeting with the LWRF team to discuss the outcomes and overall execution of the camp. A valedictory and momento distribution ceremony was subsequently organised during which all LWRF team members were felicitated in recognition of their invaluable contributions. The ceremony was attended by the Hon'ble Pro-Chancellor Dr. Manoj Goyal, Dr. Manish Shabarwal and Dr. Shalabh Gupta.
A press briefing was held at approximately 12:00 PM that was addressed by the Hon'ble Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Manish Shabarwal, Mr. Santhosh Mathews (Founder, LWRF), Mr. Vijay Ramamoorthy (Chairman, LWRF), Dr. Surjya Kanta Mohanty and Dr. Satish Mallasandra Surya Narayana Rao. During the press meet the Hon'ble Pro-Chancellor and Dr. Manish Shabarwal highlighted the successful execution of the camp and elaborated on patient outcomes and congratulated the LWRF team for their significant contribution to this free surgical initiative. The LWRF team shared their positive experience of collaborating with Santosh Hospital.
Following the press briefing the surgical team departed for the airport. The remaining LWRF members continued coordinating with patients to ensure smooth discharge procedures and overall well-being.
The Cleft and Palate Surgery Camp was a resounding success that was made possible through the seamless collaboration between Santosh Hospital and the Love Without Reason Foundation. Over the course of three days a total of ten surgeries were performed with four on Day 1 and six on Day 2. The camp reflected the shared commitment of both organisations to reaching those most in need and delivering life-changing surgical care free of cost. Strong coordination across clinical, administrative and support teams combined with the continuous guidance of the Hon'ble Pro-Chancellor and the leadership of Dr. Manish Shabarwal ensured the smooth and impactful execution of the programme. The camp made a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and reaffirmed Santosh Hospital's dedication to community healthcare and humanitarian service.
