How to prevent the incidence of decayed tooth in children before birth i.e., during Pregnancy???

Pregnant mothers with poor oral health and dental caries must seek attention to cure. Neglected Oral hygiene and dental caries in mothers can lead to Preterm low birth weight. Physicians, nurses are the most common ones to interact with pregnant women. Therefore these healthcare workers should be aware of the complications with poor oral hygiene. Thus timely delivery of Childs Oral health care counselling to the parents can reduce the risk of development of dental caries.

 

How to prevent the occurrence of decayed tooth in children once the child is born???

Infant oral health care includes diet with high quality and quantity of nutrients, usage of proper fluoridated toothpaste for brushing, brushing twice daily, seeking treatment for decayed tooth, avoiding intake of certain types of drugs like Tetracycline which have impact on Child teeth.

Parents should be counselled that high frequency intake of sugars through bottle feeding and in between meals can lead to the development of decayed tooth in children.

American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that a child must visit before his/her 1st birthday or within Six months after the first tooth erupts in the mouth.

What to do during this COVID-19 Pandemic???

 During this COVID-19 Pandemic it is mandatory, not to neglect infants oral health care, if any problems arises immediate attention has to be paid either by direct visit to the dentist by taking necessary precautions (wearing mask and proper handwashing) or teleconsultation could be done.
