Aarogyam 2021: A Research & Innovation Initiative

A research and innovation initiative, was conceptualized on the principles of inducting ideologies and skills of research in ecosystem of young medical/dental students to carve them into research-oriented healthcare professionals. The event was planned in a way to ensure comprehensive coverage of health research skills ranging from basic clinical and field research to applied research of translational medicine and entrepreneurship. Further, the students were also oriented toward career options as a biomedical researcher and funding opportunities to receive financial support for research projects and start-ups.

Arijit Bansal and Khushi ,MBBS course, initiated the event enthusiastically acknowledging the support and paying gratitude to our honorable CMD sir, Dr P Mahalingham and our young and energetic vice-chairman sir, Dr Santosh Mahalingham.

Our Dean Research, Prof.Dr Jyoti Batra, introduced the concept of Aarogyam and the expected outcomes of initiating research interest amongst our undergraduate and post-graduate students. Further, she also announced the provision of individualized mentoring support system for every student research project/start-up that may also receive financial support from the university as well as support was also given by one of the Crowd Investments company towards listing of few startups on their crowdfunding platform for fundraising from the UK investors without any enrollment fee/charges, as a reward to our students .

Next, our respected Vice-chancellor madam, Dr Tripta Bhagat declared the event open followed by welcome address of our honorable chancellor Sir, Dr Manoj Goyal. Following this the inaugural ceremony of the event was started with lamp-lighting and Saraswati Vandana.

Our first young and energetic speaker, who happens to be our alumni, Dr Salaj Rana, Scientist-B, ICMR, New Delhi delivered the first lecture of the event to sensitize our students to the importance of research in healthcare ecosystem and also provided guidance on pathways to carve niche in research as main stream career option. Dr Payal Das, Scientist-C, National Institute of Malaria Research, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt of India, very comprehensively and lucidly explained the participants the basics of writing a research manuscript and getting it published in valued journals. Next, Dr Ravinder Singh, Senior Scientist, Division of NCD, ICMR, DHR, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt of India introduced the principles of Drug Discovery and Medicine development in light of recent innovations and developments. Further, the ideologies and of bioethics in healthcare research were very effectively introduced by Dr Rajiv Ahluwalia, Vice-Dean, Santosh Dental College & Hospital. Another wonderful session was taken up by Parthiban Krishnan, Founder & CEO, Xcelity Technologies Ltd on Transforming Healthcare through Artificial based innovations. In this session an all-inclusive introduction to current status of artificial intelligence in contemporary healthcare diagnosis and service delivery was done. To add diversity to the event, next session was taken by Dr Nabarun Bhattacharya, Senior director and Head, CDAC, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Govt of India presented ‘Emerging Trends in Digital Health’ and elaborated how robotics, nanotechnology, augmented reality, machine learning and artificial intelligence through real life examples. Following this, next talk was delivered by Dr Shirshendu Mukherjee, Mission Director, Programme Management Unit (DBT-BIRAC-BMGR-Welcome

Trust), BIRAC, Government of India on Policy making and planning in research. In this talk he presented various funding opportunities by national organizations for individual research projects and entrepreneurship. Field research was introduced by real life examples by simple yet interesting talk of Dr HarshPriya, Additional Professor at Centre for Dental Education and Research, AIIMS, New Delhi. Last yet much awaited talk on ‘Crowdfunding for Startups’ was delivered by Mr Nakul Garg, Co-founder and Chief Business Officer, Crowd Invest for provision of funding opportunities for start-ups.

In the end, Dr Neeti Mittal, Reader, Santosh Dental College provided the information about upcoming research competitions on 11th Nov., 2021. The event was concluded with ‘Vote of thanks’ by Dr Sivanesan Dhandayuthapani.
