On 18th May 2023 LECTURE SESSION by Dr Bhavna, Medical Geneticist, Life Cell Laboratories The talk was organized by the Department of Biochemistry under the leadership of Dr Juhi Aggarwal, Professor and Head of the Department of Biochemistry. This event was held in collaboration with Life Cell Laboratories and was attended by Biochemistry and Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr Alpana Agarwal, Medical Superintendent, Dr Juhi Aggarwal, Professor and Head of the Department of Biochemistry, Dr Manisha Gupta, Professor and Head of the Department of Gynecology, faculty and Postgraduate students from both the Departments.

Dr Bhavna delivered an insightful talk on the advancements and applications of medical genetics in the field of reproductive medicine. Her expertise in the subject matter was evident throughout the presentation. The key topics covered during the talk were:

a. Genetic Screening in Reproductive Medicine:

Dr Bhavna discussed the importance of genetic screening to identify potential genetic disorders and risk factors in couples planning to conceive. She highlighted the significance of preconception genetic testing, carrier screening, and the benefits of early detection of genetic abnormalities in family planning.

b. Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT):

The speaker provided an overview of NIPT, a revolutionary technique used to detect chromosomal abnormalities in the fetus through a simple blood test. Dr Bhavna explained the procedure, accuracy, and advantages of NIPT compared to traditional invasive methods.

c. Genetic Counseling:

Emphasizing the role of genetic counseling, Dr Bhavna discussed how it helps individuals and couples make informed decisions about their reproductive choices. After the talk, refreshments were provided to all attendees, allowing them to network and engage in further discussions. A group photograph was also taken as a commemoration of the event.
