Diabetes, Cardiovascular risk & Retinopathy Detection camp

Department of General Medicine, Santosh Medical College, and Hospital in collaboration with Delhi Diabetic forum organized and conducted a Diabetes, Cardiovascular risk & Retinopathy Detection camp in the Department of general Medicine, Santosh Hospital Ghaziabad.

Presence of Diabetes poses patient at risk of developing various macrovascular & Microvascular Complication. Patients with long standing diabetes mellitus are prone to develop these chronic complications. Cardiovascular disease, Cerebrovascular disease & Peripheral vascular disease are the Macrovascular complications while retinopathy, Diabetic Neuropathy & Diabetic retinopathy are the some of the microvascular complications. Screening tools like ECG can give the fair idea of present cardiac status of the patient and can pick up changes which patient might not be aware of as in cases diabetes mellitus where silent ischemia is very common. Screening of lung function by doing spirometry and Retinopathy screening by digital fundoscopy can give some idea regarding the organ involvement. Proper recognition and treatments of the aliments leads to increase in life expectancy of the person. During camp patient demographic features, BMI, weight, blood pressure waist hip ratios were estimated. Consultation, Random Blood Sugar testing, Glycosylated hemoglobin levels (HbA1C), Blood Pressure Measurement, PFT (Spirometry) and ECG were done to estimate the cardiovascular risk in the population were done free of cost. Retinopathy screening done in around 20 cases, RBS checked in around 40 cases, ECG performed on 30 cases, spirometry performed on 25 cases and HbA1C done in more than 35 cases. Overall, more than 75 patients took the benefit of camp services and preventive care has been advised to them.

Apart from Screening and treating our camp was also focused on making the patient aware of their illness and how prompt lifestyle modifications and regular testing and medications can help control the entities.
