The Department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion (IHBT) organized a comprehensive training program on Plateletpheresis in collaboration with Terumo Penpol on July 27, 2023. The program was designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of faculty and non-teaching staff members in the field of apheresis technology and to facilitate successful plateletpheresis procedures. The one-day hands-on training aimed to equip participants with a deep understanding of the apheresis machine's features and functions while focusing on the proper operation and execution of plateletpheresis.
The agenda encompassed a balanced mix of theoretical sessions and practical training, which were facilitated by experts from both IHBT and Terumo Penpol.
The program initiated with a comprehensive introduction to apheresis technology and the significance of plateletpheresis in blood transfusion practices. Terumo Penpol experts provided an in-depth overview of the apheresis machine, its components, and functionalities. Participants were familiarized with the machine's interface, operational controls, safety features, and troubleshooting protocols. The participants were given detailed insights into the preparatory steps and protocols involved in plateletpheresis procedures. The emphasis was on donor selection, donor screening, and the importance of adhering to strict aseptic techniques during the process.
The highlight of the event was the hands-on training session, where the participants had the opportunity to interact directly with the apheresis machine. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, they practiced initiating and completing plateletpheresis procedures on simulation models. The training underscored the significance of quality control in apheresis and plateletpheresis procedures. Participants learned about the safety measures necessary to minimize the risk of complications during the process.
Participants gained a comprehensive understanding of apheresis technology and its applications, specifically focusing on plateletpheresis. The hands-on training enabled participants to confidently operate the apheresis machine, ensuring safe and effective plateletpheresis procedures.
