Guest Lecture on Principles Of Bioethics

On July 14th, 2022, the Student Wing of Bioethics, Santosh Deemed to be University have organised a Guest Lecture, which focused on Principles Of Bioethics which are expected in medical community to be followed. The conference was open to all the medical and dental students and more than 220 students have attended the session.The keynote speaker of the day was Dr. Russell D'Souza (Chair, Dept. of education, international Unit of Bioethics), who have connected with us through zoom meeting straight from Australia. Dr. Russell talked about the ethical challenges faced in laboratory medicine. It was followed by a speech by Dr. Jyoti Batra, Dean Research and Head of Bioethics unit, who told students about the introduction, importance, enhancements of Bioethics in the daily life of students in the field of medicine.The inauguration was completed successfully through the online mode. Subsequently, the Head of the Bioethics wing of Santosh Deemed to be University, Renuka Vikal spoke about the workings of Students’ Wing of Bioethics. This was followed by a vivid presentation on ‘Bioethics in Laboratory Medicine’ delivered by the Guest speaker of the day Dr. Sudip kumar Datta, Additional Professor, Dept. Of Laboratory medicine, AIIMS, New Delhi. Later, Dr. Rajiv Ahluwalia, Vice Dean Dental, emphasised on dealing with ethical issues raised by medicine and life sciences. The audience was engaged in lively discussions on the scenarios presented to them.

Conference concluded with a pleasant felicitation ceremony. Mementos were presented as a token of remembrance to our guest speakers, Dr. Sudip Datta, Dr. Rajiv Ahluwalia, our mentor Dr. Jyoti Batra. Certificates were presented to Dr. Chetna Arora (Secretary, Bioethics Unit). The heartfelt regards were presented to faculty advisory board, Dr. Kanika Bhalla and Mr. Gaurav Srivastav and from the student advisory board, Arjit Bansal, Bhawna Kain, Kshitej Malhotra and Ronita Dey were presented with certificates. Certificates were given to the Head and Secretary of the wing, batch representatives and executive members too. The event ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Sarthak Garg, Secretary Students’ Wing of Bioethics

In total it was a very successful event with great level of knowledge earned by the students present over their as audience. We hope that they will use those lessons of ethics in their daily life.
