World Kidney Day

On 9th March 2023 Department of Nephrology and General Medicine, Santosh Medical College in association with the Delhi Diabetic Forum organized a CME on “World Kidney Day”.The World Kidney Day Steering Committee has declared 2023 the year of “Kidney Health for all, preparing for unexpected and supporting the vulnerable”. It aims to raise awareness of the importance of our kidneys to our overall health and to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide.Dr. Ashok Kumar, Professor & Head, Medicine Department had given the introduction regarding World Kidney Day and welcomed the chief guest Dr Manoj Goyal, Chancellor, Santosh Deemed to be University. Dr. Tripta Bhagat, Vice Chancellor, Santosh Deemed to be University, Dr. Alka Agarwal, Dean, Santosh Deemed to be University, Dr. Alpana Aggarwal, Registrar Santosh Deemed to be University, Dr. Sushil Gaur, Medical Superintendent Santosh hospital and Dr. Manish Sabharwal, Facility Director Santosh Hospital were the Guest of Honour for the program. Dr Manoj Goyal gave the opening remark by congratulating the Medicine Department and gave opening remark regarding the World kidney day that it aims to raise awareness of the importance of our kidneys to our overall health and to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide and moved ahead to inaugurating the ceremony. The programme then started with first speaker Dr K. L Gupta, Head of Nephrology Department, Santosh hospital, as he explained about “Acute kidney injury on chronic kidney disease". As it can be a challenging concept to learn, but it was simply explained by Dr. K. L. Gupta through presentations. Then next session was by Prof. Dr. Ashok Kumar, he enlightens us about “Kidney Health For All ". The session was informative and interesting, highlighted that diabetes and high blood pressure are key risk factors for chronic kidney disease (CKD), Encouraging, systematic screening of all patients with diabetes and hypertension for prevention of renal dysfunction.The CME was attended by faculty of Santosh Medical College, Postgraduates, and Interns. All the participants appreciated the program with interactive discussion with speakers. Program was ended with vote of thanks by Dr. K. L. Gupta to all participants.

On the occasion of world kidney day screening camp was also organized in the OPD for diabetes, hypertension and renal diseases by performing, RBS, HBA1C ECG, Spot Urine albumin Creatinine ratio, BMI Measurements, Blood Pressure Check-up. Camp was successful with screening of more than 60 patients and making them aware regarding prevention of kidney diseases with simple measure like control of Diabetes, Blood Pressure, adoption of healthy lifestyle, cessation of smoking etc.
