World Hepatitis Day-2022

On 29th July 2022 Department of General Medicine, Santosh Medical College conducted a Program on the occasion of “World Hepatitis Day-2022” at Santosh Hospital. World Hepatitis Day (WHD) takes places every year on 28 July bringing the world together under a single theme to raise awareness of the global burden of viral hepatitis and to influence real change. In this 2022 the theme is ‘I Can’t Wait’. WHD is a great opportunity for us to raise awareness of the importance of knowing your hepatitis status and to spread the word about treatment.

The welcome address was given by Dr. Ashok Kumar, Professor & Head, Dept. of General Medicine. Dr. Sushil Gaur, Medical Superintendent being the chief Guest reinforces the need to celebrate this day to create awareness of Hepatitis in Healthcare workers. The event was then directed towards an overview of Hepatitis Day and its significance which was given by Dr. Shivani Bansal, Professor, Medicine. To increases the awareness regarding viral hepatitis, Dr. Ashok Kumar had given a lecture on various types of Virus Causing hepatitis like A, B, C, D & E and discussed briefly their properties, route of spread, clinical sign & symptoms and highlight the management. He also discussed the preventive aspect of the viral hepatitis and role of available vaccine in the prevention of Viral Hepatitis.

The event was successful with the equal participation and interactive discussions between the faculty members and students. Dr. Brijesh Saran, Associate Professor, Dept. of Psychiatry, discussed the psychological impacts on patients of hepatitis. The entire spirit of World Hepatitis Day 2022 with the WHO theme “Bringing hepatitis care closer to you” was truly embodied in our event, with hopes to bring us one step closer to eliminating viral hepatitis as a public threat by 2030.
